GVBC Youth

These seem to be crazy times that we live in. But there is hope for this youngest generation. Esther was reminded that she was alive for “such a time as this.” GVBC Youth exists to help walk this youngest generation through God’s Word and the Gospel and to see them walk with Jesus. Below are some ways we want to see that happen, borrowed from a good youth ministry friend!

As they look for CHOICE:

Change FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) into JOMO (Joy of Missing Out)

FOMO is that they don’t want to miss out on anything fun. Sometimes they will be gone and doing everything and sometimes they will have a hard time narrowing down because “will I miss out” or “will someone replace me?”

JOMO is helping them navigate consequences for their actions. I missed out on “these” consequences.

As they look for NOW:

Change Social Media to Christian Hospitality

Social media has the feel of connection but the downfall of feeding self-ego and self-image. How can I fill me, be in awe of me? How many people liked my posts, why didn’t someone comment or why did someone comment? Honestly, it’s probably the same with adults, but different platforms of social media. Teenagers use YouTube and TikTok as their preferred social media. However, actually produces connection? Being face to face; serving together, being able to sink into the background and making it about everybody else. Not having yourself as the focus. Luther who said God doesn’t need your good works but your neighbor does. Let’s help this youngest generation serve and serve well.

As they look for SOCIAL:

Change Superficial to Vulnerable

The need to photoshop needs to be changed to the need to be vulnerable. Starting to be honest of who I am and where I am. I admit my inefficiencies in order to grow. Being able to say how they need prayer.

As they look for GOD:

Change Rules and Religion to STORY

What is Jesus trying to do in my life? The gospel sets off a new creation. Is it just “do better” or is it “new life?” Is it to be the best you (motivation speech) or go die to self and let God write a new story?

GVBC Youth is for 6-12th graders. Meeting times are Wednesday Nights (6:45-8:15 pm). We also join in Sunday Morning Services (8:30 and 11:00) and we serve Sundays at 10 am in Children’s Worship Hour.
