The tragic events of September 11, 2001, plunged the United States into a war against terrorism.  The invasion of Iraq and the hopes to destroy the weapons of mass destruction is only a part of the war in which we are engaged.  Many of the people reading this letter have family and friends who have been deployed to the Middle East or somewhere nearby.  How can we support our troops, our government and our leaders in times like these?

1)  Pray for peace without war.  "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone."  (Romans 12:18)

2)  Pray for our President and those in leadership positions, that they seek the mind of God, the direction and discernment of God in all their decisions.  "If any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God."  (James 1:5)  "I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness."  (I Timothy 2:1-2)

3)  Understand that God, at times, uses governments and nations as his instrument to put down those who are wicked and evil.  After all has been done to try to secure peace, we must stand behind our nation in this war effort.  "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.  The authorities that exist have been established by God.  Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.  For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong.  Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority?  Then do what is right and he will commend you.  For he is God's servant to do you good.  But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing.  He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer."  (Romans 13:1-4).

It is our prayer that peace will come, but when dealing with evil, our first choices are not always an option.  Goodview Baptist Church is committed to pray for those serving in our armed forces.  This page is dedicated to these men and women.  Please pray for our men and women in uniform, for their safety and for victory!
