Goodview Baptist Church is blessed to have as their pastor, Rev. Joey F.
Phillips. He came to us in July 1985, after our dear pastor, Rev. Robert Lafon, was called home that January. Robert Lafon, better known as "The
Preacher", had been with the church for over twenty-five years. He was
well loved and respected by the church members and the community and was dearly
missed. It took some getting used to the new Pastor. After all he
was just a kid, barely 26 and about to be a newly-wed. How could he cope
with a church made up mostly of members old enough to be his parents or
grandparents? He coped. We adapted and the rest is history.
Joey has done a wonderful job in his first pastorate...first
other than Youth Pastor or Associate Pastor at other churches. Our church has grown
significantly thanks to God's blessings on his leadership. He is no longer
young and wet behind the ears. We have lots of members younger than he.
We love Joey dearly and would miss him terribly if the Lord ever called him
elsewhere. Follow the link to read more and meet his family.

Our Associate
Pastor, Chris Walker, came to us fresh out of Piedmont Bible
College...actually, during the summer before his senior year there.
He has taken over the youth programs at church. It has been a
pleasure to watch the increase in the number of youth and teens attending
all services of our church, not just those geared toward their age
bracket. He is a big help to Pastor Joey, whose time was spread thin
before Chris joined the staff. Chris has endless energy to spend
with the kids. He is a friend and mentor to those at Goodview as
well as Straight Street in Roanoke. He now has a wife, Jessica, to
help in his ministry. |
